Summary:
Knives Out (2019) movie summary: A murder mystery centered around a group of people in a small suburban town whose secrets are exposed when a wounded detective turned up at the scene.
The first thing that comes to mind when you’re talking about Knives Out (read: wait for it) is how it is a full-blown Agatha Christie homage with twists and turns and intrigue and what not. It’s also a black comedy rather than a straight mystery but this little detail doesn’t matter as much as all the film has to offer.
Knives Out (2019) is essentially a whodunit set in modern times, even though most of its characters are stuck in the 40s. And speaking of those characters, they are definitely something worth mentioning as well since it’s hard to find such an ensemble cast nowadays.
This film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, as shown by its 43% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as 50% on Metacritic. Its lukewarm reception is due to its perceived lack of originality and confusing plot development. It stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, and Michael Shannon. Knives Out (2019) official trailer: Here’s what some reviewers had to say: Kyle Smith of The New York Post gave it 2 out of 4 stars and called it “absorbing”. He writes that the director, Rian Johnson, succeeds in creating an atmosphere that is “suspenseful, witty and elegant.” But he also points to the lack of originality, saying that Knives Out (2019) has little new to offer.
Knives Out (2019) movie has been praised for its cast and the dialogue offered by the star cast. While there was a little disappointed because of the quick ending, but it doesn’t mean that Knives Out 2019 is not up to the mark. Knives Out pros: It has a great cast: Daniel Craig and Lakeith Stanfield (who I don’t know yet but who seems to be perfect for this role). If you’re looking for other actors in the cast, check out this list on Wikipedia. It is directed by Rian Johnson, who also directed Looper (+ Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willis, and Emily Blunt), the excellent Brick (+ Joseph Gordon Levitt), and some episodes of Breaking Bad (he directed Ozymandias (2014)). It’s suspenseful.
Knives Out cons: We don’t know much about it yet. And I’m writing this article before watching the movie so I can’t tell you if I love it or hate it. But chances are that by reading my article anyhow you’ll like it more than you would if you didn’t read my review, right? So what does Knives Out (2019) teach us about Storytelling?
